Course Details

Mathematics & Computer Science

Course Description

The department has 10 full time faculty with interests ranging widely: topology, number theory, commutative algebra, analysis, algebraic geometry, biomathematics, mathematical modeling, algorithms, artificial intelligence, statistics etc. Nearly every year there are additional visiting faculty, and we also periodically arrange for short term visitors. Two of our faculty are devoted to the computer science program and several others step in to teach particular computer science courses from time to time. The courses we offer are designed to form a solid program either for students heading to graduate school or for those interested in careers using mathematics or computer science in a more applied setting. About 10 students per year graduate with the mathematics degree and a few less have chosen the computer science degree. There is also a Mathematical Economics degree administered jointly with the Economics Department; this program graduates about 5 students per year. Each year, several of our students go on to graduate school.
