The Colorado College Biology Department seeks to provide students with an excellent foundation in the ideas, techniques and facts of modern biology. We hold to a multifaceted program that allows majors to explore an evolution-based curriculum with exposure to diverse organisms and to levels of biological organization from molecular to ecological. We weave themes of problem solving and critical thinking throughout our curriculum. We strive to meet the needs of majors with diverse interests, to provide courses for allied science majors, to offer non-science majors opportunities to understand the strengths and limitations of science, and to engage in interdisciplinary programs with colleagues in other departments. The Biology Major promotes scientific exploration in a wide range of biological fields including genetics, cellular biology, physiology, development, microbiology, botany, zoology, ecology, and conservation. To complete the Biology Major students must complete 15 credits and senior capstone experiences. Students focus their studies by choosing either the Organisms, Ecology, & Evolution (OEE) track or the Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB) track. During their time at CC, Biology majors gain hands-on experience with modern biological techniques and equipment, and research opportunities with faculty are common. Biology majors have a wide range of post-graduate options including medical school, graduate school, teaching, biotechnology, research, and more.
