To be admitted to the B.M. program, students must demonstrate a high degree of musical competence or significant creative abilities. The B.M. in composition is recommended for those considering a professional career in composition, or graduate study leading to masters or doctoral or equivalent degrees. Students wanting to declare composition as their option must submit a portfolio of their original compositions in addition to an audition on their major instrument. Students must formally declare the B.M. as a degree porgram before the beginning of the sophomore year.
