Certificate III in Cabinet Making

Course Description

This qualification focuses on skills and knowledge required to manufacture and install free-standing and fitted furniture in the furnishing sector. This qualification offers 2 pathways. The first being the free-standing furniture making pathway and the second being the kitchen and bathroom installation pathway. Cabinet makers can specialise in a range of areas including the reproduction of antique furniture, kitchen fittings, dining suites, office furniture, bedroom suites, shop fittings and occasional furniture. You?ll learn how to make or repair furniture and other fine timber products from solid timber, flat-panel or timber-based products. Experienced professionals will show you how to read and interpret plans; select and prepare timber and manufactured board, and mark out; cut and shape pieces using hand and power tools; assemble furniture components; make timber joints; construct and install furniture; make custom furniture; prepare surfaces for finishing; produce manual and computer-aided production drawings; and estimate and cost jobs.
