This qualification provides students with the skills and knowledge to work as a mechanic to service and repair motor vehicles from a selected range of specific vehicle types. You will also learn how to test and identify faults in the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems of motor vehicles. This qualification will provide the apprentice with both on and off the job skills and knowledge required to be eligible for the issue of a Trade Qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology. This will enable you to service and repair motor vehicles from a selected range of specific vehicle types (streams). You will also learn how to test and identify faults in the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems of motor vehicles. SQIT offers three streams of study under this qualification: - Light Vehicle - Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment - Heavy Vehicle Road Transport Each stream has different required (mandatory) competencies. These details will be negotiated with SQIT, the apprentice and the employer soon after the apprentice has signed a training contract with the employer.
