The Bachelor of Contemporary Music with Honours consists of four (4) double-weighted units including Research Methods for Arts and Social Sciences and the Creative Arts Research Thesis. The Creative Arts Research Thesis units can be a performance project, composition project, production project, or a combination of these. In addition to the actual project, there is a written component (or exegesis) which outlines the research basis of the project. Alternatively, students may undertake a completely written musicological Honours project.

The main purpose of the honours degree is as a pathway to postgraduate research degrees in music such as PhD. Professions that graduates may work in include music performance, music composition, sound production and recording, music industry and retail, and music teaching at various levels.
