Course Description

The ceramics department’s new equipment and remodeled work space is just footsteps away from the dorms, dining hall and academic buildings. A twenty four hour access studio allows students to work according to there own creative process. Small class sizes foster a close relationship with faculty and other students. Equipment: * 25 electric pottery wheels * 7 electric kilns * 30 cubic foot Geil gas kiln * 9 cubic foot Brodnax Raku kiln * 24 cubic foot soda kiln * Extruder * Slab Roller * Fully stocked glaze room * Soldner Clay Mixer * Peter Pugger Pugmill Sierra Nevada College offers B.A. and B.F.A. degrees in Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics. Students take a variety of art classes in various media as well as general education classes to receive their degree. In the summer, SNC offers week long workshops with nationally known ceramic artists. In the past fifteen years, the program has been host to: Rudy Autio, F. Carlton Ball, Virginia Cartwright, Tom Coleman, Patrick Crabb, Anne Currier, Malcolm Davis, Ken Ferguson, Vivika and Otto Heino, Catharine Heirsoux, Steven Hill, Robin Hopper, Patrick Horsley, Yoshi Ikeda, Marc Lancet, Marilyn Levine, Warren MacKenzie, Fred Olsen, Robert Piepenburg, Daniel Rhodes, Jenny Lind, Jim Romberg, David Shaner, Jack Troy and many, many more! Students can take workshops for credit or personal enrichment. There are also many other workshops offered in many other media.
