Course Description

The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing Degree Completion program for graduates of a Psychiatric Nursing program prior to 2010 opens for application at 8:00 AM (Saskatchewan time) on Monday, September 30, 2013. The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) degree program originates from SIAST Wascana Campus and will be delivered via distance learning, including online. BPN Degree Completion Program for Graduates of 2010 and Beyond BPN Degree Completion program is open to graduates of the SIAST Psychiatric Nursing diploma program 2010 and beyond. (One to two courses per term over six terms for a total of two years). BPN Degree Completion for Graduates Prior to 2010 The BPN Degree Completion program is open to graduates of a Psychiatric Nursing program prior to 2010. (One to two courses per term over eight terms for a total of 2.5 years). Overview Psychiatric nursing is a distinct field of practice in western Canada. There are currently about 5,000 registered psychiatric nurses in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, and the demand is expected to grow. Baccalaureate prepared RPNs play an invaluable role in the delivery of quality mental health services to clients with increasingly complex needs. They also contribute in roles related to leadership and management, education and research. The BPN Degree Completion program provides contemporary and evidence-informed practices in psychiatric nursing. Students will gain additional knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to achieve standards and competencies of roles related to clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research.
