ESOL Programmes are for people whose first language is not English. The Advanced course covers a wide range of complex language and skills to allow you to communicate in a broad range of contexts including professional and academic situations. You will study: General English, Study Skills, Presentation Skills and Research Skills. Candidates will study other subjects from the wider College programme. To gain the full SQA ESOL Higher qualification, candidates will have to sit an external examination as part of the course. This exam takes place in May/June. The SQA ESOL Higher is recognised by Scottish universities as part of their entry requirements.

At this level the emphasis is on refining existing language skills and continuing to develop your understanding across a range of media as well as your use of idiomatic, colloquial and job/subject-specific language. Applicants at this stage are typically looking at higher study opportunities in colleges or universities, or they wish to move into better jobs commensurate with existing qualifications or experience. The Intensive ESOL Higher course combines language skills study with study of other subjects from the wider College programme to enable you to practise a wide range of language and skills in an area of interest to you.
