A-Level Media Studies

Course Description

Through analysing texts from various different media (e.g. film, newspapers, online) you will develop a critical understanding of the media. You will learn and apply relevant cultural theory to your own views while developing your writing skills. In AS Media you are encouraged to explore various media platforms through a study of genre, narrative and representation and be able to draw upon how the audience is positioned and targeted by the industry. Through coursework assignments you will be given the opportunity to research magazines and films and produce your own film or magazine marketing campaign. In A2 Media you will concentrate on the relationship between text, audience and industry. You will choose three media industries and research the global implications of these industries. Coursework centres on an individual research topic in which three linked production pieces are developed
