Course Description

• AT AS LEVEL: Unit 1: Information Systems You will study a wide range of IT systems and learn which is the most appropriate to deliver the information needed for business survival. You will examine real life case studies and the practical use of hardware and software. You will look at the impact that ICT has on business, the home, education, health services and social issues. You will create a spreadsheet solution using a range of spreadsheet package functions. and produce screen shot evidence of your solution then explain how you implemented your solution. Unit 2: Presenting Information Task You will design, develop and implement the solutions to three tasks of increasing complexity: a desk top publishing task, mailmerge task and a multimedia presentation to include original animation, sound and video. • AT A2 LEVEL: Unit 3: Use and Impact of ICT You will explore the stages of developing a substantial IT system and the need for good project management. You will further study more complex computer technologies in storing and processing data (distributed databases) and in communicating information (computer networks, Internet). You will also explore the legal, moral and social implications of using IT systems. Unit 4: Relational Database Project You will develop a database solution to a client driven problem. You will carry out and document the main stages of its development and produce a User Guide for your developed system and evaluate its success.
