Bachelor of Science in Biology

Course Description

The Department of Natural Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology, as well as a minor in biology, which prepares students for careers and graduate work in the biological sciences. Students have the opportunity to create an academic track tailored to their interests, with concentrations in cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, organismal biology, ecology and environmental science, or forensic science. Biology majors will acquire an appreciation of the impact of science on society, and will develop critical thinking skills and laboratory techniques so as to be capable of designing, carrying out and interpreting scientific experiments. Students will also explore biological processes and structures at the molecular, cellular and organismal levels. All programs within the Department of Natural Sciences are interdisciplinary, exposing the student to fields related to and beyond his/her own. Students also have the opportunity to participate in community-based learning projects in environmental science and/or elementary education. The Biology major provides students with the breadth of knowledge and strong skills necessary for careers in the biological sciences. Graduates of NDNU's Biology program have continued their education at many well-respected universities, and have worked for pharmaceutical companies, clinical and forensic laboratories, the Armed Forces, and various elementary, middle and high schools, colleges/universities, and athletic facilities.
