The mission of the Accounting Department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully compete in tomorrow's business environment in the areas of public accounting, managerial accounting, financial services, and corporate finance. This mission is to be accomplished through the expertise of a knowledgeable faculty, by technological integration, by the stimulation of professional growth in our students, by applied faculty and student research projects that serve our region, and by preparing our students for professional licensures in the profession of accounting. Northwest offers two Accounting tracks, one for those who wish to become Certified Public Accountants and one for those who wish to work in private industry.

A career in accounting can prove to be both rewarding and satisfying. You will be providing a very valuable service, as well as generating vital information for many people. Accountants are well respected both in and out of the business community and are looked to for their expert advice and high level of integrity. The profession of accounting involves much more than number crunching. It requires that accountants posses effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with others. Your ability to communicate, socialize, and get involved with your community will determine your level of success as an accountant.
