The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with an Emphasis in Leadership in Teaching and Learning program is a practical degree program designed to meet the needs of professional administrators and leaders in curriculum and instruction at the PK-Grade 12 district level. The program stresses the development of leadership in teaching and learning strategies that assist schools in promoting a culture of learning and inquiry. The emphasis on leadership in teaching and learning in this program places achievement in the broader context of scholarship and lifelong learning. The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with Emphasis in Community College Leadership is the newest doctoral program offered by MBU. This terminal degree focuses on the knowledge and practical skills needed by instructional and administrative leaders to be effective in community college leadership positions. The program addresses issues of concern for education leaders in community college settings including the elimination of achievement gaps and a focus on student learning outcomes. Students in the program engage in course-embedded field inquiry, internships, and applied doctoral research studies with the following objectives: to achieve an advanced level of competency in community college leadership skills and to be equipped to solve practical problems in the community college arena. The added dimension of the educational doctorate is to build a “culture of applied research” which will continue to serve the PK-Grade 12 and higher educational community in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The emphasis will be on district leaders as change agents who are responsible for creating climates that help administrators and teachers make changes in the context of teaching and learning. SCHEDULE OF COURSES Students will enter the program as a cohort group and move through the program with their assigned group. Refer to the Doctoral Program Calendar for application deadline dates and cohort start dates. Courses are scheduled year-round and typically meet once a week for twelve-week sessions. CONVENIENT LOCATIONS Classes are currently offered cohort style at various Regional Learning Centers. Not all locations are available when a new cohort enters the program.
