Bachelor of Science in Corrections

Course Description

The Corrections Program makes the bold statement that we can contribute to creating better human communities by developing helpful approaches to dealing with problems of crime and delinquency. The Corrections Program offers the only Bachelor of Science Corrections degree in Minnesota. The department also offers a minor as well as a graduate degree in Corrections. Our program is unique in that it encourages innovative/critical thinking and a focus on transforming correctional systems. Other universities offer either criminology or criminal justice degrees. This program contains a wide range of courses focused on issues in corrections. We value and promote experiential learning through field practice placements (internships), volunteering opportunities, service learning requirements, mentoring experiences, student portfolios, tours to correctional institutions, interactions with professionals in the field, and a capstone experience. The Corrections Program faculty members are proud of the individual attention that we provide to each student. Our graduates hold leadership positions in community corrections, human service agencies, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, as well as in the federal system (Probation and the Bureau of Prisons).
