Course Description

International development is concerned with the development of people all over the world. It focuses, in particular, on the countries of the Global South, in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and the opportunities and challenges they face in a rapidly changing international context. It highlights local-global connections, and how we need to think globally when acting locally. The study of International Development will help you to understand development activism and how development can be planned, organised and managed to meet the needs of all, especially the most marginalised communities around the world. You will learn from lecturers who have firsthand experience of working with international aid agencies and local communities throughout the world. The programme focuses, in particular, on the countries of the Global South, in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and the opportunities and challenges they face – issues such as globalisation, climate change, food security, poverty, human rights, health, education, gender, inequality and empowerment – from an international development perspective.
