Architecture and Interior Design Extended degree - BA (Hons)

Course Description

The extended degree route provides an intensive preparatory foundation year prior to progression onto the BA Architecture (RIBA Part 1) or BA Interior Architecture and Design at the Cass. This initial year introduces a broad range of design skills and techniques and outlines ways of thinking about design and the ideas that inform Architecture and Interior Design. Students who successfully complete the course have a substantial portfolio of high quality work and progress onto Level 4 of a degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture or Interior Design within the Faculty. Your learning Your course is delivered by highly trained and experienced staff. Their rich and varied experience feeds directly into a challenging and unique curriculum. You will undertake diverse projects to develop your skills and knowledge through drawing, photography, film, model making and installation. This helps you to establish your design focus and to learn relevant technical skills as well as an exciting and imaginative approach to design and culture today. We aim to enable you to develop your own potential and a portfolio of work to enable direct progression onto one of the degree routes.

Career outcomes

Career opportunities Successful completion of the Year 0 of the Extended Degree leads to direct progression to the BA courses relating to the spatial disciplines within the Faculty. The primary choices are: * Architecture - BA (Hons) * Interior Architecture - BA (Hons) * Interior Design - BA (Hons) Alternatively, you can chose to change pathway and join one of the many BA courses offered within the Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design. Graduates find employment in professional design practice usually as junior designers with interior design companies working in the fields of retail, leisure, office/workplace or residential design, or other design-related jobs including exhibition work, retail and project management. Graduates have been successful in starting up independent design practices, and securing design pitches and winning competitions. Academic progression: Students have the opportunity to progress directly to 3rd Year / Level 6 of Interior Design BA (Hons) course or Interior Architecture BA (Hons).
