Course Details

Diploma in Interior Design

Course Description

Interior design at LASALLE is defined as the act of creating engaging environments within and around existing spaces and structures. This entails the design and planning of a diverse array of spaces that span residential, leisure, retail, office, health care, hospitality, and institutional spaces. The curriculum is based on a number of key design principles. Fundamental technical skills and vocational knowledge are developed through design investigations, explorations, experimentations and conceptual thinking methods. These are explored in a studio environment where traditional drafting and modelling techniques, plus the latest in computer-aided drawing and visualisation, are honed. Studies on historical and contemporary design further develop your understanding of design. The programme remains sensitive and relevant to the industry's needs through links with industry partners. The programme is unique, as it seeks not only to develop your technical skills, but also to supplement that professional skill with a wider knowledge and understanding of the built environment and its link to industrial design and architecture. Its objective is to provide an environment for the training of competent individuals who demonstrate the following: a lateral understanding of design contexts, proficient technical skills and vocational knowledge, plus an ability to apply skills and knowledge creatively and proficiently in the wider context of the built environment.
