Course Description

Organisations of all sizes in all sectors are increasingly seeking to employ people who can work in ways that are characteristically ‘entrepreneurial’. Our degree offers you a broad understanding of Management combined with specialist knowledge of Entrepreneurship theory and practice. Lancaster’s Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (IEED) is actively engaged in the business community and works closely with many local and regional businesses. IEED offers a range of partnership activities and consultancy services, including marketing, strategic thinking, entrepreneurial behaviour, innovation and growth. Every module of your degree draws on this in some way. Throughout your course you will take a wide range of optional courses, covering areas such as Management, Accounting and Finance, Economics, Marketing and Management Science as well as compulsory specialist courses in entrepreneurship and innovation. You’ll begin your degree with first-year core modules including Entrepreneurship: Key Debates and Concepts; An Introduction to Management; An introduction to Statistics, and Computing for Management. You can also choose another option from within the Management School. In the second year, you’ll study Entrepreneurs and Entrepreneurship; Small Business and the SME Sector; Management and Consulting, and Franchising. You will spend your third year working in industry, where you can refine the skills you have already gained, put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain invaluable experience for your future career. This will also give you insights into entrepreneurship and innovation and their impact on contemporary society. In your final year, you’ll complete courses in subjects such as Entrepreneurial Learning; New Venture Planning; Family Business; Innovation, and Social Contexts of Entrepreneurship.
