Course Description

This degree scheme offers more flexibility than our IBMS-accredited Biomedical Science degree, with the added possibility of completing a four-year integrated masters degree, subject to peer competition and requires an overall performance equivalent to upper second class. This Biomedicine degree is aimed at those with a broad interest in human life processes and disease. They involve the study of subjects such as biochemistry, cell biology, genetics and physiology which are at the heart of modern medical and health research. These subjects are taught with a particular emphasis on the molecules and mechanisms fundamental to life processes and how these are disrupted by disease. You’ll begin your degree with the study of 15 wide-ranging compulsory modules, including Biomedical Science in Practice, Infection and Immunity and Protein Biochemistry. You will spend your second year at a university in Australasia, Canada or the USA. Where you will move on to study subjects such as Medical Microbiology, Cellular Pathology and Cell Biology Techniques.

This degree provides an excellent platform for research-based careers in biology and biomedicine, including further postgraduate study. In addition, there are many opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, the food industry, forensic science and research institutes. Traditionally our graduates enter a wide range of careers, and the transferable skills acquired during this degree will make graduates attractive to employers in many other areas such as management, finance, teaching and marketing.
