Bachelor of Environmental

Course Description

As human interference with the environment continues to grow, and the level of interest and investigation increases, it has become abundantly clear that environmental issues are essentially multidisciplinary in nature. In addition to the scientific elements involved, environmental issues include socio-economic, cultural and political factors. All factors must be considered when attempting to understand and solve our environmental issues. Being able to understand and evaluate the choices that must be considered when dealing with environmental issues is an important theme in these programs. Three interdisciplinary programs are offered at Lakehead that contain a common core of environmental studies plus courses required for an honours degree in each of the three disciplines.

Career outcomes

Biology provides a sound education for the needs of both science-based and professional career students and those who wish to understand the complexity of the living world. Geography is concerned with past, present and future relationships between people and their environments and the changes that result as part of these relationships. Earth Science defines the most fundamental part of our environment as the Earth on which we live, and understanding this environment. In keeping with the multidisciplinary approach, all programs share both a Science and Social Sciences & Humanities component. As a graduate of Lakehead's Environmental Studies Program you will be prepared to pursue a career with government agencies or private sector companies who are working to improve our natural environment.
