Kingston University Summer School

Course Details

Aircraft Engineering (Foundation)

Course Description

This course is designed to prepare students for higher education and progression onto the Aircraft Engineering BSc(Hons) and other courses in the School of Aerospace and Aircraft Engineering. It will give you an insight into how aircraft fly, how they are controlled and the operation of aircraft engines and power systems. Despite conflicting opinions, an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) study published in March 2011 showed that there is still a shortage of aircraft maintenance engineers and that the problem is likely to get worse in the future. ICAO estimated that between 2010 and 2030 there is a shortfall of training capacity equivalent to 360,000 maintenance engineers. This is approximately 18,000 places per year. This means that a qualification in aircraft maintenance engineering should stand you in good stead in the job market.
