Course Details

Aircraft Engineering BSc(Hons) top-up

Course Description

If you have completed the Kingston University Aircraft Engineering Foundation Degree or one of the other Kingston University feeder courses (for this programme) then this course is the perfect choice for topping-up your qualification to a BSc(Hons). Successful completion of your foundation degree will have guaranteed you a place on the course; there are no other hurdles to get over other than completing the application. If you are an aircraft maintenance engineer who is in possession of an EASA category B licence then this course gives you a fantastic opportunity to gain academic recognition for the training you have undertaken to obtain your licence, and a chance to obtain an Aircraft Engineering BSc(Hons) in two years part time (or one year full time if you can get the time off work). This opportunity is possible because the Kingston University Aircraft Engineering Foundation Degree is basically a B licence course and we are able to use your EASA licence to give you credit for it. Unfortunately, it is only possible to give credit for two-thirds of an award, so we cannot give you the Foundation Degree. But, armed with 240 credits against the Foundation Degree from your licence, you only need to complete 120 credits (at Level 6) in order to achieve the honours degree.

Career outcomes

The knowledge, understanding and skills gained from this programme and prior learning will provide a good foundation for senior roles in engineering and other technical fields. Previous graduates have gone on to work for British Airways, Flybe, Virgin Atlantic, KLM UK Engineering, Monarch Airlines, DHL, Bristows, Royal Navy, British Army and BAES. All of the students on this programme will already be in full-time employment or will have completed other programmes (feeder courses) designed specifically to lead to employment in the aircraft maintenance industry. Therefore, this course is not really designed to lead to employment but rather to enhance your chances of gaining employment and to prepare you for senior positions and management roles later in your career.
