Course Description

Engage imaginatively with a wide range of contemporary and historical literature, focusing particularly on tradition, innovation, and diversity. At Keele, you’ll explore the significance of texts within their originating cultures, periods and genres as well as their continuing influence. You might consider the historical, socio-political, economic, gender and geographical contexts of fiction, poetry, drama and even film, from the medieval period to the present day. You’ll become an imaginative and critical thinker as you explore subjects such as the importance of story, the novel, writing for the screen, postcolonialism, depictions of maternity and scandal. You can choose to spend a semester or a whole additional year at a partner university abroad.
