The programme is designed to develop a thorough understanding of economics and its underlying mechanisms, at both the micro and macro level. You will learn how different markets work and understand the dynamics in the global economy –for example gaining insight about the factors influencing economic growth and why economic development varies between different parts of the world. The first year courses provide you with basic economic theory and basic knowledge about entrepreneurship and business administration and accounting. During the second year the programme contains courses in statistics and econometrics, providing you with the basic tools for analysing economic data. During the fifth semester you choose between courses in different areas and, if you qualify, the opportunity to spend the semester abroad at one of JIBS' partner universities. During your final semester you write a Bachelor's Thesis in Economics in the field where you have focused on.

After completing this education, you will have many skills that are sought after in the labor market. The greatest skill is that you will develop your analytical skills. This means that you understand, can integrate and analyze problems. These skills are important and useful both in the private and public sector. A graduate in economics also opens up for an international career. Future work-tasks include market analyzes and investigations in various private companies and public organizations, such as financial institutions, large multinational companies, and public organizations. Thus, the program provides good career opportunities in the banking and financial sector, national and multinational companies, and public sector. In addition, the education open up opportunities for work in aid organizations and UN agencies.
