Course Description

This three year honours degree programme in Social and Community Studies blends the complementary discipline areas of social and community studies. The focus is on developing student skills in several key areas; people management, leadership, social and cultural awareness, communication skills and community awareness. This is a niche programme which addresses the needs of the community and voluntary sectors so graduates will have a high degree of social and cultural awareness as well as a keen sense of teamwork and people skills.

Career outcomes

This programme aims to equip graduates with the necessary social awareness, business and management skills in order to find employment in a range of community and voluntary settings including working with disadvantaged groups, co-ordinate advocacy groups and work with community bodies on community development projects. What follow-on study opportunities are available? Graduates who obtain an honours degree are eligible to proceed to suitable postgraduate courses of study. Also, suitable graduates may undertake post-graduate studies by research at Masters and Doctoral levels
