(certificate) Basic Firefighting

Course Description

The Atlantic Police Academy (APA) Basic Firefighting program was established in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard (NFPA1001) for fire service professional qualifications. This program obtained its accreditation in 2006 and again 2010 from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). In 2012, the Basic Firefighting program was accredited by the Canadian Forces College Opportunities Program through the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC). The program has established partnerships with the Prince Edward Island Firefighters Association and the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Fire Department training centers. The program conducted IFSAC certification for North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) firefighters in Kosovo in 2011 and in 2012. Our employment record is excellent, with graduates employed across Canada; and recently, 24 of our graduates were hired by NB Power at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station in New Brunswick.
