Course Description

If you want to pursue a rewarding career as a veterinary nurse, this exciting vocationally-based foundation degree will give you the specialist nursing techniques and knowledge and professional status you need. This course gives you the veterinary nursing knowledge and skills essential for safe and effective practice, and will develop your skills of enquiry and reflection required for lifelong professional learning and development. A 60 week work-based learning placement in an approved RCVS training practice will allow you to gain and develop ‘day one’ clinical skills and the development of competence and confidence in preparation for professional registration and practice. Completion of this qualification will make you eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and practice as a Veterinary Nurse. Hartpury is an RCVS Veterinary Nursing Practical examination centre and the outstanding facilities include a veterinary nursing clinical skills area, Equine Veterinary and Therapy Centre, small animal house, hydrotherapy treadmill, commercial farm and equine centre.

Further study opportunities include the RCVS Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or a postgraduate degree. Career opportunities include employment as an RCVS registered veterinary nurse in clinical practice and/or referral practice or hospital, senior veterinary nurse, practice manager, clinical coach, veterinary nurse lecturer, the pharmaceutical and veterinary supply industry or laboratory technician.
