BA (Hons) Community Arts & Engagement

Course Description

Courses and structure A key goal of the programme is to enable graduates to undertake practical roles in a range of contemporary community settings: supporting local projects and initiatives; establishing sustainable social enterprises and community interest groups; enabling community activism and participation; and working to improve communities through community arts, including dance, drama and music. Throughout the course you'll specialise in one of two pathways. 1) Community Engagement – emphasising skills in community development, community organising, and social justice. The aim is to prepare you for the complexity and creativity of work in community settings in the sorts of community roles which are hardest to define – for example in innovative projects, forums and networks which seek to change things for the better 2) Community Arts - equipping you with the skills necessary for professional practice in community arts settings locally, nationally and internationally. As well as the core courses, you'll study creative practices and methodologies in music and/or drama. You'll also undertake an internship in a contemporary community setting, as well as courses in career development and business management.
