Course Description

The oil and gas industries are widely affected by a growing range of factors, including shifting global economics, an evolving global energy mix and environmental issues. There is an increasing demand for those working in the industries to develop an intelligent awareness of this complex business environment and to grasp the ways in which these changes will affect organisations. Developed in conjunction with industry, the School of Engineering and Built Environment at GCU offers a suite of programmes designed to provide the knowledge required for a range of professional careers within the oil and gas industry. The overall aim of the programme is to enable students to develop oil and gas related knowledge within the framework of information technology by allowing students to build on their previous qualifications, experience and career aspirations.

Career outcomes

As the subject area is multi-disciplinary and involves an understanding of underlying Oil and Gas principles we expect graduates will be able to find employment in a variety of Information Technology led areas within the Oil and Gas sector. Traditional IT related jobs in this area which are relevant to Oil and Gas include systems administration and support, business analysis, software engineering, and database specialists. Other IT roles within the Oil and Gas sector would include IT Field Service Engineers, IT Project Management and Safety and Facilities Operators. The continual integration of Information Technology into everyday work and leisure activities makes knowledge and skills development in Computing and Information Technology an asset to any career path including the field of Oil and Gas.
