Career outcomes

Employers often approach us with graduate opportunities, having recruited our graduates in the past. In addition, many organisations approach us with vacancies which are not widely advertised, giving our graduates the opportunity to apply for posts with a smaller field of competitors. Part of the attraction for employers is the professional exam exemption or accreditation that graduates of our BA(Hons) Finance, Investment and Risk may have the potential to obtain with professional bodies such as the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. Although the programme does not offer formal placements, all students are encouraged and supported to pro-actively seek relevant employment during the course of their degree. Again, employers may contact us to seek students for such posts and many of our students undertake summer work, internships, and part-time work during term. A member of our staff acts as a careers tutor and, working with the GCU Careers Service, assists students with their career development and graduate job search. Our graduates are employed by a range of organisations in the financial service sector including Morgan Stanley, Lloyds Banking Group Financial Conduct Authority, Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Life, Aviva, Clydesdale Bank, Barclays Wealth, Tesco Bank, Citigroup, Financial Conduct Authority and Close Bros. Asset Management. These graduates are working in areas which include investment analysis; wealth management; financial risk; banking; insurance; pension fund management; financial advice; securities trading; technical and management posts across the range of financial institutions; regulation and compliance and operational risk.
