Course Details

BA (Hons) In Media Production (Photography)

Course Description

3 Years or 1 year Top Up from Foundation Degree. Our philosophy, which is endorsed by the Media Industries, is that you will be best prepared for a career if you can develop and demonstrate the necessary technical skills of media production as well as a creative understanding of the theories and concepts of the communication industries. The BA (Hons) Media Production programme is multi-media; in the first year you will study Televison Production, Radio, Film-making and New Media. The first year is essentially a foundation programme where you will acquire the techniques appropriate to operating the equipment in all the media fields. It allows students to complete their first productions, writing and producing location-based Film and studio-based TV and Radio. You will also be introduced to theoretical areas of study, providing the essential background to an appreciation of the role and "language" of the mass media industries. The second year deepens the technical and creative quality of student productions, expanding your experience into animation and documentary film. The third year of the programme enables you to develop a personal pathway especially suited to your interests and vocational expectations. During the final year a significant focus is 'The Project', which will enable you to undertake a production investigating an "issue" or "creative style" of interest to you. Your project is really open for you to interpret, for example it could be a Short Film, TV Documentary, a Radio Drama or an Interactive Animation. You will be invited to visit the College on specified Open Days when you will have an opportunity to see the facilities and talk with the staff and students.
