Course Description

What is Anthropology? Anthropology is the study of humankind from a broad viewpoint. Over time and through space, anthropology examines human biological and cultural diversity, and its interaction with the environment. The sub-fields of anthropology that investigate this vast human diversity in both the past and present are: archaeology, cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. Who Would be Interested in Anthropology? People who are interested in: How cultures work Understanding past and present lifeways Discovering ancient civilizations How our culture and biology affect our health Primates, fossil humans, and human biological variation Why Anthropology? Many anthropology majors participate in study abroad and field school programs Anthropology majors have conducted exciting research and presented their findings Anthropology majors have received internships with the Daniel Boone National Forest Service-learning opportunities are available through ANT 377
