Course Description

In year one you will study six core modules: Introduction to Financial Accounting * Introduction to Management Accounting People, Management and Organisations Foundations of Finance Introduction to Economics Quantitative Methods Year 2 Year two consists of four compulsory modules, including Management Accounting and Corporate Finance, and two optional modules selected from a range including Information Systems, Marketing Principles and Managing in a Global Environment. Year 3 All students work on a Dissertation in year three, along with three compulsory modules; Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting, Financial Planning and Control and Contemporary Issues in Management. Your final module is chosen from Elements of Business Transformation, Analysis, Research and Business Skills II, Social Marketing, Corporate Governance, Strategy and International Business. Year 4 Students who opt for a placement year in year three (either work, study or combination of both) will return to Queen's Campus and complete year three in their year four. Study Abroad A period of international study on your CV can make you stand out in a crowded job market. The Durham BA Economics degrees offer you the option of spending your third year of the final part of your second year abroad on an international exchange. This is an opportunity to learn a new language, ecperience another country and learn about its culture. You may decide to: * Be an exchange student at another university for the full placement period * Be an exchange student for a while before moving on to a work placement * Spend the full 40 weeks on a work placement abroad * Spend the third term of your second year studying Economics modules at either the University of Trento or Pisa in Italy * Alternatively, or in addition to the third year exchange, spend shorter periods aborad or summer school programmes offered by our partners across the world
