This is a vocational course and is a practically-based applied science qualification. It shows how science can be used in vocational contexts and in the field of forensic investigation. It includes mandatory core subjects that give learners the opportunity to see how science works and to carry out investigations that allow them to develop their underpinning knowledge and skills within a vocational scenario. Learners will study a range of units that include genetics, microbiology and chemistry as well as a range of subjects related to forensic science including criminology, criminal psychology, traffic accident investigation, forensic evidence collection and analysis, forensic photography and criminal investigation procedures and practices.
