Addiction and Mental Health Worker

Course Description

The Addiction and Mental Health Worker program offered by our School of Community and Health Studies will help you acquire the knowledge and skills needed to work in mental health and addiction services, using evidence-based knowledge and skills in screening, assessing and responding to people with mental health, substance use and other addictions from diverse cultural and community perspectives. You will learn the skills to work with individuals, family members and small groups who are impacted by addiction and mental health issues in a variety of community health and human services settings such as social and advocacy organizations, residential care facilities, outpatient care centres and community-based food, housing, emergency and other relief services. You will also learn the skills to advocate at organizational and systems levels to promote equitable access to supports and services, including health promotion and prevention/harm reduction.
