Automotive Service Technician

Course Description

Automotive Service Technicians (AST) are proficient in using computerized diagnostic equipment to test, adjust and repair key vehicle components such as engines, steering systems, braking systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions and electrical systems. With the Ford ASSET Option, you not only receive your credentials as an Automotive Service Technician, you also receive specialized training focused on Ford products and complete Ford accredited courses. The Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training (ASSET) program is nationally accredited by Ford Motor Company for the exclusive use of their dealer personnel. Ford dealers sponsor ASSET students during their work terms, so you not only gain real world experience, but you also receive a wage, and are given the opportunity to demonstrate your skills. You may even have a job lined up upon graduation. Many employers hire trainees once they graduate from the program. The Program This specialized training program has been designed to provide you with the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to diagnose and repair the sophisticated systems found in contemporary Ford motor vehicles. The administrative and business training components of the program provide you with laddering opportunities for advancement to management positions in the industry and/or advanced studies leading to a university degree. An Articulation Agreement with Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan, is in place which provides graduates of this program with two years of credit towards their management or engineering technology degree. This will allow you to transfer into the third year of the Bachelor Program in Automotive and Heavy Equipment Management, or Automotive Engineering Technology.
