Accounting Designations In as little as three years after completing the two-year Financial Management Diploma, graduates have the ability to obtain the BTech Accounting degree, and their professional designation. The BCIT Bachelor of Technology in Accounting (B.Tech.) degree meets the degree requirements for each of Canada’s three professional accounting designations: * Chartered Accountant (CA) 4 * Certified General Accountant (CGA) 5 * Certified Management Accountant (CMA) 6 For students who enrol in the BTech program, the degree requirement for any of the three accounting designations is an exit requirement (rather than a requirement for entry). Unlike most post-secondary students, BTech Accounting students are not required to have a degree before commencing either the Chartered Accountantcy articling period and CA School of Business ("CASB") modules or the Certified Management Accountant's Strategic Leadership Program ("SLP"). CA students must complete their BTech requirements before writing the Uniform Evaluation ("UFE").7 CMA and CGA students must complete their BTech requirements to graduate with CGA or CMA designations. Read on for information on the accounting designation programs, and website and contact information for further inquiries. Become a Chartered Accountant (CA) The CA program requires that candidates obtain employment as articled students with a qualifying firm (an “approved training office”), and concurrently complete the educational modules offered through the CA School of Business ("CASB"). 8As students, candidates are employed in public practice. After graduating as chartered accountants, they may continue in public practice, or seek employment in industry, government or non-profit enterprises. The B.Tech. degree program is a CA School of Business Co-op degree. Students must complete the BTech degree requirements before writing the Uniform Evaluation ("UFE").7 For more information on the CA School of Business/BTech Co-op program, contact Carl Queton at the CA School of Business at 604 488-2631, or visit the CA website.
