Course Description

The Department of Communication offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Arts in Communication degree. The program offers an opportunity to pursue rigorous study of human communication examining various communicative perspectives to understand, critique, and engage contemporary interpersonal, organizational, political, and social issues. With a focus on the theory and practice of communication, the program seeks to develop engaged scholars of communication and leaders practicing communicative perspectives. Graduate study of the field of communication can be focused through individual thesis projects designed to prepare students for additional graduate study or a variety of practical endeavors. Graduate student coursework, in combination with the development of individual thesis projects, enables students to develop expertise in a variety of communication studies related to relational and organizational communication, public communication, and mediated communication. With the guidance of graduate faculty advisors and committee members, students are encouraged to pursue graduate study of communication that aligns with their unique academic or professional interests
