The Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) cognate of the Ed.D. in C&I consists of three academic years, in addition to a terminal 60 credit masters degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP program or equivalent. Once accepted into the Program, doctoral students complete 66 credits of doctoral-level work. Of those 66 semester credits, 12 credits are comprised of research and statistics courses, 12 credits are comprised of curriculum and instruction courses, 9 credits are comprised of dissertation, 1 credit is assessment (comprehensive examination or culmination activity), and 32 credits are comprised of courses in the Counselor Education and Supervision.

The Department of Counselor Education developed an innovative apprentice model to train doctoral students as emerging leaders in the field of Counselor Education and Supervision. Currently, the Department accepts one student every fall to the Counselor Education and Supervision cognate.
