Blackburn College has a heritage going back 125 years, and is one of the largest and most successful colleges in the country. Since the opening of the University Centre in 2009 the college has gone from strength to strength, proactively engaging with businesses in the development of vocational and degree level courses meeting local, regional, national and international needs at a time of constant change and development. As a result we have a reputation for producing learners and graduates that are highly sought after by employers.Today Blackburn College delivers employment focused courses to 16,000 P/T and F/T learners aged 16 to 90 from entry level up to Masters level. While such accolades are pleasing there is never scope for resting on our laurels. The next stage in development that will support future curriculum needs will see the further extension of our £65 million Student Village. This includes a state-of-the-art Regional Automotive Technological Centre (RATH) built in partnership with industry and a new £13.5M Sports Centre built in collaboration with Blackburn with Darwen Council to support the health and wellbeing of our local community. These extensions are due for completion in 2014 and will give the College and Blackburn with Darwen some of the best facilities in the UK. The College is currently the 3rd largest employer in Blackburn and recognises its prominent role into transforming Pennine Lancashire into a vibrant and successful economy, which enhances the skills, aspirations and potential of the local community. The College is also working closely with its 14-19 partners to develop an offer, which ensures that young people have the core skills to play an active role in the new economic landscape.
