Course Details

Entry Level 3 Light Vehicle

Course Description

As a mechanical student, you will gain the fundamental skills and techniques you need to get started in the motor trade. We prepare you for work, teaching you the basics of workshop safety, workshop tools and equipment, engine technology, vehicle construction, wheels and tyres, steering, suspension, brakes, transmission and electrical. The course is mainly workshop-based and focuses on learning through practical tasks. Your assessment will be practical, with verbal questioning and some written assignment work. You will be in our mechanical workshops as much as possible so that you can learn by using your practical skills. There is some classroom work, but we keep that to a minimum. From September 2014 you will be able to study in our brand new £5.5 million Regional Automotive Technology Hub. The workshops incorporate a real life garage environment and MOT station where you will work with up-to-date professional equipment on a range of modern vehicles. We have strong links with North West dealerships, including Nissan, Skoda, VW Audi and BMW.
