Designed and developed by the experienced staff of the Social Care Department this course covers a variety of subject areas. The course involves a comprehensive coverage of psychological and sociological perspectives. Social issues with their inherent ethical challenges are at the heart of the programme. A practical component of the course equips students with the skills and qualities required of workers in the field. Work experience is an important part of the programme. Throughout the two years there is a minimum of two periods of five week practice placements including work with travelling people, homeless people, young offenders, former prisoners, substance abusers and women in refuge. Special schools and residential centres, hospitals and rehabilitation workshops, day care and training centres also feature on our wide range of work placement options.
