Course Description

Are you excited by Forensic Science? Do you see your future in finding new drugs to treat diseases? Would you like to be involved in the development of new technologies to solve environmental problems? Perhaps you feel lost in the crowd at other higher education providers? This three year course will equip you with the knowledge and technical skills to secure your place in the science and biotechnology industry. With a strong practical focus in our state of the art laboratories and class sizes of no more than 20 students, you will receive highly personalised training in a warm supportive environment. Building on a strong foundation of Biology and Chemistry in first year, you will gain theoretical and hands-on experience in current exciting areas such as Nanotechnology, Reproductive Technology and Pharmacology. You will develop sound skills in critical science areas such as Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology. Your practical skills will be complemented by business subjects in Strategic Project Management and Entrepreneurship that will prepare you for your transition into industry. We facilitate this transition by placing you in industry for two months at the end of the course, where you can apply your skills in the real world and establish the contacts you need for a successful career. This degree is equivalent to any university degree with a focus on practical and employability skills. You will be workplace ready and have the skills required to be successfully employed in the Biotechnology industry. You may also wish to undertake the Associate Degree in Biotechnology which is a two year course.

Career outcomes

You may be able to work as a scientist in a research environment (university, government department), forensic scientist, pathologist, biochemist or microbiologist. You may also be able to work in genetic research, environmental research or pharmaceutical research and drug development.
