From health care, personal training, group exercise instruction, nutritional counseling and wellness coaching many careers require a basic understanding of anatomy, athletic training, sports nutrition, exercise psychology, and exercise testing and prescription along with critical- thinking and problem solving skills. At Arapahoe Community College we have developed a curriculum designed to prepare you for national exams and hands on experiences designed to give you the skill necessary to enter the work force in two years. The two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Human Performance and 30-credit-hour Physical Fitness Specialist certificate provide education focused on the field of exercise and physical fitness. Qualified health and fitness professionals are in great demand. The degree program provides an understanding of movement, exercise, nutrition and health. Students learn how to conduct fitness and health assessments, develop exercise prescriptions and evaluate nutritional needs. * Experience in our Fitness Center/Aquatic Facility provides the skills and confidence needed to work with a diverse population. Students are eligible to take National Certifications at the completion of the program. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects opportunities to increase faster than average (27%) through 2017.
