Course Description

Chinese Area Studies (CAS) is not an individual degree programme but is a specialization programme under the Study Board of International Affairs. Chinese Area Studies can be chosen as an integral part of existing master programmes, such as: Development and International Relations European Studies Culture, Communication and Globalization Tourism History, etc. Chinese Area Studies enables students to focus on "China" as a particular field of specialization within the two degree programme. Students who wish to be awarded "specialization in Chinese Area studies" in their degree certificate must go through a study process as described in the diagram below. The specialization programme consists of: Two semesters of theoretical studies (2x5 ECTS) One internship semester or a study-abroad semester (30 ECTS) The final thesis writing (30 ECTS) Chinese Area Studies provides a broad understanding of Chinese society, history and culture, economic and political development, contemporary issues as well as the scale of China's current and expected impact on the world economy and international relations. A number of lectures introduce China in an integrated and interdisciplinary manner. Through this approach students will be capable of comprehending and analyzing China-related issues in a holistic and coherent combination. Full degree students begin 1 September.
